Silensec Approach
At the heart of our service approach is our commitment to getting the basics right and giving clients what they tell us they want. We believe that our past successes are simply a platform for our future ones. Instead of relying on tried and tested solutions, we apply our experience and expertise to find fresh answers to familiar situations.
Our Service Approach is based on three pillars:
- Specialisation
- Efficiency – Through Pareto Law
- Sustainability
Specialisation
There is an old joke about consultants : “Consultants borrow your watch to tell you the time. Then they keep the watch" Such jokes exemplifies the difference between poor consultancy and great consultancy. Poor consultancy provides great solutions to problem you don't have. Great consultancy delivers simple and cost-efficient solutions to complex problems you have and cannot solve.
We believe that great consultancy should achieve two main goals.
- Assess your individual needs
- Provide a solution that stays with you when the consultant leaves
The core of our consultancy strategy is based on “specialisation”. The bottom line is that no consultant knows it all. Silensec primary specilisation is IT Governance, or in other words looking at the Information Security posture of a company from the big picture. We identify with you your most important assets and find a solution to protect them. We can leverage upon a wide network of highly specialised professionals who can be considered true opinion leaders in their own field. Our network of collaboration is unlimited and we truly are a one-stop-shop for consultancy as we rely on wide range of service and technology providers.
Efficiency – Through Pareto Law
The Pareto principle, named after the Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto, states that for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes. Microsoft pointed out in a famous article that by fixing the top 20% of the most reported bugs, 80% percent of the errors and crashes would be eliminated. In our experience this principle holds true in Information Security too. By fixing 20% of the problems we achieve 80% of “real security” and this is how we achieve security in the most efficient way.
No company can achieve 100% security. It will always be possible to find vulnerabilities in your IT network, if you give enough time and resources. It is pointless to just think of proving it. What a company can achieve is an acceptable level of risk where the benefits outweigh the costs.
Security does not have to be expensive. There are hundreds of Information Security companies eager to optimise your security posture through very expensive devices and consulting services. However, there are very few companies that work towards 100% risk acceptance efficiently and at an affordable price.
Sustainability
There are literally thousands of approaches to what is considered “good consultancy”.
Furthermore, there are hundreds of high-end consultancies eager to help your business through bespoke services. However, there are very few companies that do it in away that is affordable and long-term oriented.
We at Silensec work with your company to produce results that stay with you when the consultant leaves. We strive to deliver solutions that are sustainable with you really want to achieve and your financial resources.
There is substantial difference between “perceived value” and “real value”. For instance you might believe that your Network System is secure when actually it is not. At the same time you might not fell secure when in reality you are. We try, first of all, to clarify the difference between reality and perception. Then we strive to find a “real” solution that is sustainable. At Silensec we evaluate sustainability from 2 fundamental perspectives:
- Sustainable with your financial resource - Can you maintain it in the long term?
- Sustainable with your business goals – Is it worth it?
